Key Responsibilities
Southern Comfort Air HVAC technicians are responsible for ensuring that climate control systems operate efficiently and safely. Their main duties include:
- Installation: Interpreting blueprints and building specifications to install HVAC systems, including compressors, ductwork, electrical components, and thermostats in homes, offices, and industrial facilities
- Maintenance: Performing preventive maintenance such as cleaning filters and coils, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting ductwork, and calibrating thermostats to reduce breakdowns and extend system lifespan
- Repair: Diagnosing and repairing malfunctions using tools like refrigerant gauges, multimeters, and thermal imaging cameras. Repairs can range from simple thermostat issues to complex compressor failures
- Customer Service: Explaining system problems, providing cost estimates, and offering energy efficiency recommendations to clients
- Compliance and Safety: Ensuring work meets local building codes, appliance standards, and occupational health and safety regulations
- Record Keeping: Documenting maintenance and repair work, including labor and material costs
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration, heat pumps
- Certifications and Licenses: HVAC certifications, a valid driver’s license
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service abilities
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in confined spaces, handle heavy equipment, and operate in extreme temperatures
Work Environment
Southern Comfort Air HVAC technicians work in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, often alternating between installation and maintenance tasks. You would work full-time on a contract basis. We do not run on call or emergency services. Work conditions can involve exposure to various weather conditions and physically demanding tasks.
Compensation
Commission based pay varies based on experience, and certifications typically ranging from 20-35%. Opportunities for advancement include supervisory roles and technical specialization.
