Lead HVAC Technician

Salary: $25-$35 DOE
The Lead Technician performs skilled work in the installation. operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The Lead Technician provides exceptional customer service and educates customers regarding technical and investment decisions by providing multiple options and solutions while making service calls in customers’ homes. Additionally, the Lead technician will provide technical and customer service support to newer technician including trouble shooting calls and ride alongs.
A Varsity Zone technician will be able to perform the following tasks while servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or installing an HVAC system and all related parts and accessories.
Primary responsibilities:
• Serves the clients of the company by expertly servicing, repairing, heating and air conditioning systems.
• Services, repairs, and/or proposes replacement of gas furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, electric furnaces, packaged terminal units, ductless split systems, humidification and dehumidification equipment, electronic air cleaners and air purification systems, residential control systems to include Evolution and zoning systems.
• Troubleshoots, adapts, and resolves/repairs all issues to keep equipment functioning properly.
• Tests each system after service/repair is complete to ensure the system is functioning properly.
• Performs proper inspection of customer system to prevent future issues.
• Explains each service and repair performed to customers.
• Assesses systems and assists the customer in making a buying decision through detailed education of current system needs as well as a thorough cost/benefit analysis of purchasing a new system.
• Accurately documents:
- Age and type of each system component on invoices.
- Services completed.
- Discussion with customer regarding current and/or future equipment/service requirements.
- Invoices and costs for service.
• Debriefs service call with dispatch after each service call.
• Turns in all parts receipts, packing slips, contracts, and invoices daily.
• Wears floor savers while working in client homes.
• Inspects area for cleanliness after job completion.
• Maintains company vehicle, ensuring cleanliness and organization, both inside and out.
• Maintains a professional image at all times by:
- Wearing only company approved and provided Varsity Zone apparel.
- Following safety policies and procedures.
- Abiding by all Varsity Zone standards of performance and code of ethics.
- Maintaining a courteous demeanor with all customers and associates.
- Respecting the customer’s property.
• Participates in ALL company sponsored training classes.
• Assists in mentoring and training maintenance technicians.
• Follow Varsity Zone installation guidelines so that approved products and requirements are utilized
• Have familiarity with the tools required to perform each task
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
• 5 year minimum of verifiable experience as a Service Technician in a residential service and maintenance operation, with installation experience highly preferred
• Knowledge of the fundamental of operational functionality of residential heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment.
• Have a general knowledge of local, state, and federal codes for residential and commercial HVAC
• Solid communication and customer service skills.
• Must have appropriate trade tools.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Have basic electrical knowledge for low and high voltage
Educational/certification requirements:
• NATE Certification
• GED or High School Diploma.
• EPA Certification 608 with Universal proficiency
Preferred qualifications:
• Associate’s degree in related field.
• Extreme temperatures.
• Climbing, heavy lifting, loud noise, crawling, working in confined spaces, pushing/pulling, carrying equipment, bending, turning, kneeling.
Physical requirements:
• Ability to work in confined spaces and to maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces to access HVAC units often in extreme temperatures.
• Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
• Natural or corrected vision to see and focus for close, distance, peripheral vision with normal depth perception.
• Work assignments may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation to a known disability.
Varsity Zone technicians are the most professional tradesmen in HVAC. A seasoned technician will have already obtained the following, which are requirements for Varsity Zone.
• An HVAC multimeter that can read microfarads, µ
• An analog or digital gauge and manifold set, or Bluetooth probes
• Basic hand tools required for HVAC tasks
• Personal Protective Equipment
• Cordless drill, batteries, and charger
