About the Role:
The HVAC TECH Engineering Associate plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and efficiency of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within educational facilities. This position involves hands-on technical work combined with engineering support to maintain and improve HVAC infrastructure that directly impacts the comfort and well-being of students, faculty, and staff. The role requires diagnosing system issues, performing routine maintenance, and collaborating with engineering teams to implement upgrades and energy-saving initiatives. The HVAC TECH Engineering Associate contributes to creating a sustainable and healthy learning environment by adhering to regulatory standards and best practices. Ultimately, this position supports the institution’s mission by maintaining reliable climate control systems that enhance the educational experience.
In addition this associate functions as an engineering/facilities associate doing all other routine and preventative maintenance throughout the facility. These tasks may or may not be related to the Air Conditioning systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with completion of a recognized HVAC technical training program.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in HVAC system maintenance and repair.
- Basic understanding of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics related to HVAC systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work on-site within educational facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in HVAC technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Certification such as EPA Section 608 Universal Certification or NATE (North American Technician Excellence).
- Experience working in educational or institutional environments.
- Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainable HVAC practices.
- Strong computer skills including use of maintenance management software and digital diagnostic tools.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on HVAC systems to ensure efficient operation and compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in HVAC equipment and implement effective solutions promptly.
- Collaborate with engineering and facilities teams to support system design improvements, upgrades, and energy conservation projects.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, and parts inventory to facilitate ongoing operational excellence.
- Respond to emergency service requests and troubleshoot HVAC system failures to minimize downtime in educational buildings.
